African Water Investment Platform Launches

The African Water Investment Platform (AWIP) targets regulated water and wastewater utilities, bulk water resources, and industrial treatment infrastructure across the continent. Managed by a Delaware limited liability company called WAM Africa, LLC, and a Seychelles entity known as Africa Investor Holdings, the platform seeks to generate long-duration cash flows that track inflation. By focusing on these specific asset classes, the General Partner aims to achieve returns with low correlation to other markets.

AWIP invests its capital across Municipal Systems, Regulated Assets, Industrial Projects, and Water Resource Development. It implements state-of-the-art technologies to enhance water quality and operational transparency. The platform provides data and analytics to support fair, volumetric billing services. This approach improves efficiency and reliability in water services.

AWIP brings exclusive experience as an equity investor focused solely on the global water sector. The team manages approximately $700 million in assets for Sovereign Wealth, Pension, and Endowment funds. They led a $500 million “take private” acquisition of SouthWest Water, a U.S.-based investor-owned utility serving about 1 million customers. This deal stands as one of only a few similar utility acquisitions in the last 15 years.

Management has direct experience in regulated investor-owned water utility operations and acquisitions. They possess deep knowledge of municipal water infrastructure privatization and water infrastructure regulation. Their background includes private equity infrastructure asset management and portfolio construction. AWIP implements water-related technology adoption and operational improvements throughout its holdings.

Investing in infrastructure requires patience and a long-term view. AWIP focuses on assets that offer stable, predictable cash flows, which can be particularly valuable during periods of economic volatility. By concentrating on essential services like water, these investments aim to provide a steady stream of revenue regardless of broader market conditions. The infrastructure sector, specifically utilities, tends to move differently than equities or real estate, offering a potential hedge in a diversified portfolio.

Infrastructure investments like these can provide a global regulation cooperation model for other essential services. The team’s experience in managing assets for Sovereign Wealth, Pension, and Endowment funds demonstrates their ability to handle complex investments. They have a proven track record of achieving returns with low correlation to other markets.

AWIP’s approach to investing in water and wastewater utilities is based on a thorough understanding of the sector. They have a deep knowledge of the challenges and opportunities in this field. The platform’s focus on state-of-the-art technologies and operational transparency sets it apart from other investors in the sector.

The firm’s investments are designed to generate long-duration cash flows that track inflation. This makes them an attractive option for investors looking for stable, predictable returns. AWIP’s experience in managing assets and implementing water-related technology adoption and operational improvements makes it a strong player in the global water sector.
